Virtual Hosting
What is Virtual Hosting?
Virtual Hosting is where multiple web sites (www.anyname.com) are served off the same physical server. This saves each customer from purchasing their own expensive server, performing the setup and providing the appropriate environment. This is the most common method of hosting sites of small to medium size with light to moderate traffic.
< < Top
Do you have Front-Page extensions?
Front Page extensions can be installed for your account. They are not installed automatically during the initial setup. Send us a support request and they will be installed within 24 hours.
< < Top
What is Bandwidth?
Bandwidth is the volume of data moved between your site and the browsers of the visitor's accessing your site.
< < Top
What is Transfer?
Transfer is the amount of data moved between your site and the browsers of the visitor's accessing your site. If you were to compare this to a faucet being turned on, Bandwidth would be the volume or gallons per minute as the water rushes through, and Transfer would be the amount of water that actually traveled through.

I want to change my account plan. How do I upgrade/downgrade my account?
To upgrade or downgrade your account, go to our customer support page and complete a customer support request. Just specify what plan you want to change from or other services you'd like changed and submit your request.
< < Top
Can we add services as we grow and need them?
You may grow at whatever pace you like. All options can be added or removed at any time.
< < Top
What domain names do you support?
We support all domains, including foreign domains.
< < Top
Can I have more than one Domain name?
You can only have one 'active' domain name per account, (http://yourdomainname.com) but you may park other domain names on that account. It works like a re-direct, sending vistors from the 'parked' domain to the 'active' domain. It will not redirect to a subdomain or other url.
Simply use the same dns nameservers for the domain to park, as you did for your 'active' domain here, and let us know what domain(s) you want us to park on your existing account. (Some Cpanels will do this for you.)
< < Top
What is a Addon Domain?
Same as above except, it will redirect to a subdomain on your active domain.
Simply use the same dns nameservers for the domain to park, as you did for your 'active' domain here, and let us know what domain(s) you want us to park on your existing account. (Some Cpanels will do this for you.)

What is a dedicated IP?
There are 2 types of IP addresses:
1) Dedicated IP: Is not shared. You only need this if you are using a digital certificate or a secure page.
2) Dynamic IP: Is shared.
For accounts with MyPagesOnline that do not have a dedicated IP, it simply means that more than one domain may be using the same IP address.
< < Top
1) Would it be important to have a dedicated IP? 2) Does it improve reliablity?
1) Not neccessarily. 2) No. A dedicated IP for your domain means you can use the IP address (http://123.123.123.123) as you would a domain address (http://yourdomainname.com). Some web hosts use the same IP address for multiple domains.
For accounts without dedicated IP addresses: Initially, you will be given a IP# to upload your files to until your domain name resolves to your web address. After that, you will just use your domain name.
< < Top
What is SSH?
SSH is similar to telnet, but it's more secure. It uses high level encryption and compression to make sure nobody can takeover or eavesdrop on your telnet session.

Software and Support
At MyPagesOnline, our dedicated support team is knowledgeable about all aspects of our software, and we can quickly and accurately support all software packages we provide. When you have a question, we'll know the answer.
< < Top
Does MyPagesOnline offer a money-back guarantee?
Our Virtual Hosting packages include a 30 day money back guarantee.
< < Top
Can I get unlimited bandwidth or transfer?
No. We do not offer packages with unlimited bandwidth or transfer primarily because there is no such thing. Any one that promises that is not telling the truth. Somewhere in their terms and conditions are probably some words referring to "excessive use of resources", and in effect these place some arbitrary limit on your bandwidth or transfer. Some will even try to confuse you by offering ulimited bandwidth, but limiting transfer instead. (See What is Bandwidth?) We set limits to both protect you and to provide you with a reliable service. Look at it this way: With an allowance, you know what you are paying for.

Moving Your Site to MyPagesOnline
How do I move my current site to MyPagesOnline?
Every situation is different, but generally, there are 4 basic steps in moving your site from your current hosting company to MyPagesOnline.
1) Selecting and ordering your hosting package.
2) Moving the contents of your current site to your new site. Setup email accounts, forwarders, autoresponders, ...
3) Test, Test, Test, and then Test some more.
4) Changing the name server for your domain at the registrar where your domain is registered. In 24 to 48 hours, your changes should start to take effect. It may take serveral days for all DNS servers to be updated.
< < Top
Where do I upload my files?
Files for public access (your website) should be uploaded to the public_html or cgi-bin inside the public_html directory.
The www directory is just a shortcut to the public_html directory. Files uploaded into either one, should appear in the other one as well.
Files and directories outside the public_html directory are not accessible to the public.
You must chmod (or set permissions for) files in your cgi-bin, or you will get "Permission Denied" or "File not Found" errors.
< < Top
What is a directory?
Directories are the same as folders on your computer. Once uploaded, a folder is now a
directory on your site.
For instance, a folder called "links" uploaded to the public_html directory would be located at: http//yoursite.com/links
If there is a page inside the links folder called "index.html" the bowser will default to it even though the address in the web bar will only say: http//yoursite.com/links
If there is a page inside the links folder called "page1.html" the address for that page will be: http//yoursite.com/links/page1.html
< < Top
What are URLs and Paths?
A URL is a http web address. A path tells the script where a file is located on that server. Below are some examples of URLs with the matching path.
http://domainname.com
/home/username/public_html/
http://domainname.com/cgi-bin
/home/username/public_html/cgi-bin/
(scripts do not need to be in a cgi-bin to work, but it is recomended)
http://sub.domainname.com
/home/username/public_html/sub/
http://sub.domainname.com/cgi-bin
/home/username/public_html/sub/cgi-bin/

Support
Does MyPagesOnline offer support?
Yes. MyPagesOnline does offer support through our contact page or by sending an email to cs@mypagesonline.com.
< < Top
Why doesn't MyPagesOnline offer phone support?
We prefer support requests to come through our trouble ticket reporting system or email for a variety of reasons.
First, it provides an audit trail of communication so that all the facts can be passed on to whomever may be working your problem.
Secondly, we monitor everything round the clock so we're never far away if you need something.
If you need to talk to one of us by phone, you may email us with a request for our a 1-800 number.
We decided not to place our 1-800 number on the website, to reduce our time being wasted by solicitors, and junk faxes.
Please note: We cannot help you with PC questions, or password requests on the phone.
Our system is mostly automated and communication by e-mail will get you results just as quickly and much cheaper!

Understanding Your Mail Server
1 Remember to always use "mail.yourdomain.com" as the incoming (pop3) and outgoing (smtp) server in your local email client, such as Outlook Express.
2 In the Cpanel mail control center, the forwarding function provides forwarding to outer address, and can be used to alias one account to another. Thus, if you want mike@homepage.net to head to a pop3 account of slim@aol.com, use a forward to make this happen.
3 All POP email boxes EXCEPT the default account use the full email address (user@domain.com) as the user name for logging in.
4 Your "default address" is the root catch-all mailbox. It receives messages heading to all addresses which aren't setup as unique pop accounts within your domain. Keep in mind that the default address account does NOT use the full email address format, like other pop accounts. The login for your default address is the same as the main FTP login for your account.
5 If it seems that you cannot get a pop3 account working, the quickest way to solve this for yourself is to delete and recreate the account with your control panel. This saves time as it bypasses asking our support staff for assistance. The changes you make to your email items with your control panel are done in real time.
6 The mailing list feature is very simple, please keep that in mind. If you require a more powerful listserv program, you should probably look elsewhere. We cannot utilize a robust listserv on our webhosting machines without causing the server's overall performance to suffer.
< < Top
Common E-Mail Problems
Can't send mail:
Our SMTP servers are configured as secure relays. This means that you cannot simply reference "mail.yourdomain.com" as an Outgoing mailserver unless you successfully log in via one of your pop3 accounts at "mail.yourdomain.com' before you try to send. This is a mandatory setting to prevent spammers from using our mailservers as havens for unsolicited email. If you are getting a "relaying prohibited" or "disconnected by administrator" error, it means that you haven't logged into the pop3 server at your domain before you tried to send through the smtp server at your domain. To log in, you need to check for mail first.
In addition to this, you might not be able to send regardless of if you check mail successfully. Some ISPs have it set so that their users cannot use an outbound SMTP server to relay messages. If you are still experiencing problems sending through your domain, and are certain that you have logged in via pop3 to an account at your domain, you might want to contact your local ISP to see if they do allow their users to use outbound smtp servers.

Your default root email account:
Every account starts out with a default "catch-all" account for its domain. This email box will grab all mail heading to ANYNAME@yourdomain.com. The login for this box is simply the same main account login you received after signing up. There is no need to request an alias to your root account, because all names under your domain already are filtered into this account.
< < Top
Problems resolving your mailhost
If you find that you can't get "mail.yourdomain.com" to resolve as a valid SMTP or POP3 server, please be sure that your domain is registered to our nameservers. Also, try clearing out your cache and cookies and then restarting your computer. In some cases your registration was not completed by the registrar.
< < Top
Any Username And Password Error:
The main cause for this is trying to access the e-mail account with the wrong user / password. If this is NOT your primary e-mail account remember to use the full email address (user@domain.com) as your user name for logging in. If all else fails, simply remove, and then recreate the account with your mail control panel.
If none of this helps, then most likely the pop3 box in question has a received a corrupted message. Contact support and tell them to clear that box out. Usually this results in most or all of that particular mailbox's contents being erased.

When I post to the mail list the mail is held for administrative approval because of "implicit destination"
In the web-based list administration interface, go to 'Privacy options' and 'Spam-specific posting filters' (mid-page). In the text box for "Alias names (regexps) which qualify as explicit to or cc destination names for this list", enter the email address of the list.

FrontPage
General Info
FrontPage extensions are included free upon request with all accounts. Keep in mind that you will need a copy of the FrontPage program from Microsoft before you can begin following the directions below:
If your account is a #2 plan or lower, please remember that your domain name will need to be activated on our nameservers before FrontPage will be available to your account.
< < Top
Login:
Choose "Open FrontPage Web" from the File Menu in FrontPage Explorer. It will ask you for a Web Server of File Location. Enter http://yourdomain.com and then "list webs". Next, you will need to select (double-click) the root web. The requested login and password will be the same as your FTP account.
< < Top
Usage:
FrontPage supplies you with two separate interfaces. The FrontPage explorer is used to manage the files within your web site. If you open a file in your web site another program called FrontPage Editor will open. When you are connected to your web then all changes made to any file you edit will be saved to your web.
*Note: Although the software documentation states that you can create the site on your computer and then "publish" it to the web server, we do not recommend this. Many times publishing to the server from your computer will loose the Interactive web bots features that you may have setup when designing your site on your local computer. We recommend that you create your entire site by being connected to your web and saving directly to the server. To move files already created on your web site use the Import command found under the File menu within FrontPage Explorer to select the files to import to the server. This is by far the best method for moving files from your hard drive to the server. Using FTP to upload is not recommended as this may overwrite important files. Also, do not edit .htaccess files since FP uses these.
Additional support documents and complete usage instructions can be found at Microsoft's official FrontPage Home Page. http://www.microsoft.com/frontpage
